Summer 2022 Prep

Whew! That pandemic thing really made international travel very difficult. This has been true, but it is going to get easier this year.

There is good news. The summer restrictions are going to start falling away. On that note, do not expect that if you are unvaccinated that it will get much easier. Several countries will only require testing before your trip and upon arrival if you are unvaccinated. Many more will still require quarantines. If you are vaccinated the news is much better, most countries will ask you to show your status and allow you to visit based on your vaccine certificate. Some will still require testing before you arrive but expect this to be reduced as we get closer to the summer travel season.

Here is where the nuance is, the boosters. Some countries, like Spain, are requiring that you have had a booster in order to visit. Other countries have not specified whether a booster is needed. It is important to look at each countries website to know what they are asking. If you haven’t had your booster, many countries are saying that you aren’t fully vaccinated. If you received your first set of vaccinations within 270 days of your travel date, you should be fine. If you haven’t, then you need to have the booster. A lot of countries consider the booster an indefinite vaccination at this point. The same is true if you had the virus in the last 180 days, you will be considered fully vaccinated.

There is a light at the end of this tunnel. Last summer most countries reduced their restrictions before the summer rush, because they are missing out on the tourists. If that holds true, you can expect to see some of these restrictions to be reduced. Either way, you can travel safely without fear of quarantines. Staying informed is the most important thing, and now more than ever you should purchase travel insurance for your trips. Don’t get caught with your pants down.
