Two Years Old
Two years ago Nerdgasmic Adventures became a real business. One that I had been trying to start for at least two years before that. All due to a love of travel and a love of sharing that travel with others.
Things started out well and I was getting interest in the business. Then we all know what happened next. The biggest roadblock that the world could come up with for a fledgling travel business.
I still needed to travel for the business and stay safe at the same time. So last Fall I was able to take an 8-day trip to Croatia. Nobody was there. Okay, overstatement, not many tourists and it was the beginning of offseason, or the end of high season, depending on your perspective. But a windfall hit me, one that is business gold, a true connection with another person in the industry. I met George and Misty.
George is from Greece and Misty is from Texas. They were in Dubrovnik and we walked the city walls together. We got to know each other and I added them to my social media. George is a tour guide in Athens and had lots of information I was not aware of.
Fast-forward 8 months and my wife and I fly to Athens for our three-week vacation in Greece. My brother is getting married on Santorini and they are showing up shortly after we get there. Day one, George takes us on a private tour of Athens and the Acropolis. We eat at a traditional Greek restaurant and are really blessed to have George as a kid. His knowledge is deep and his hospitality is immense.
That is one great reason that travel is so awesome. The connections. You make a great friend, as we did with George. He really has been adopted by my family, we got to spend two more evening with him during our trip.
So, the moral is, even though things have been hard, and continue to be hard, there is always a benefit to be had. Our benefit is gaining a friend. Do not think that you are throwing away money to spend time away from home. Know that a vacation provides value that isn’t always based on money, it provided friendships, connections, and a love for discovery that will keep you young through your prime and beyond.
